Dummy's Guide to Surviving our Tv Industry - Ep 2.

Segment 1.
Wait no longer! Here's the answer to the question from the previous post.
"What are the rules for sitting in the production bus?"

Technically, there are no written rules to seating arrangements. There are however some unspoken "guidelines". Our TV programmes are separated into 2 major genres - Drama and Variety. Top players for Variety are often found seated right at the back of the bus (the last row), while A-listers for Drama are often found seated in the front row of the bus. The seat right behind the driver is also known as the "Ah Ge /Ah Jie" seat. Usually, the rest of the artistes are advised to be seated somewhere in the middle. I stress again that these are not hard and fast rules, just stuff we hear along our line of work.

So what's the reason for this strange and senseless rule, you may ask. I wondered about it too! So, I went around poking my nose and asking the most hated question: "Why?" I eventually found someone who shared this with me. To save this person from being fired, I will keep his/her name a secret.

Angsty Andie - Ei, I ask you ar, why is the front seat the A lister seat? Behind the driver very cramp lei!

Anonymous - Why you so kaypo? Why you want to know?

Angsty Andie -Erm... Curious only lah. Its not for my blog, really really...

Anonymous - Aiya, actually is damn silly lor, there was once an Ah Jie wasn't feeling well from car sickness, so she requested to be seated behind the bus driver. I think someone saw and thought, Wau! Only Ah Jie can sit the Star Seat! So, from then on, the front seat became the A listers seat. The end. Happy? Don't let me see this on your blog ar...

Angsty Andie - errr... of course not... *Innocent Grin*

Segment 2.
I shall Answer the Top 3 Questions Posted on my comment Box, so keep the questions Coming!

tc-
Does anyone sell their body to climb up in fame? I am interested to be part of the tv industry but im really scared that its as dark as shows portray it to be.

Angsty Andie -
I've tried many times to sell my body but no one seem to be interested. My attempts include neon coloured, nipple hinting singlets. Seriously though, I've heard of many "horror sex stories" but TC, why don't you get into the industry first. You can worry about indecent proposals after that.

Anonymous-
Do some artistes really do plastic surgery?

Angsty Andie -
Duh... Yes.

m8bel-
Does this industry always depend on looks to get it? Especially for the ladies?

Angsty Andie -
Not just "especially for ladies", mabel. For everyone! Its the hard truth, looks play a major part in getting into the industry (as an artiste). No one wants to see an ugly face on TV. Lucky for me, my director is short sighted and thinks I look like Brad Pitt.

Segment 3.
Next Ep's Question

Rain is the worst enemy for our productions. Luckily, we have a "ritual" to ward off the bad weather. Several ingredients are needed for this, including a rather "dirty" one. Go on, take a stab, think dirty.

Don't forget to post your questions in the comment box! Any questions regarding our film/TV industry will be entertained.

Forgive me for saying this but, the reason for the sitting arrangement in the bus is really stupid..wonder what will it be like if this logic did not surface at all..

hi andie,

wanna know if there is any popular artiste who is very unpopular in real life?

for artistes who had done plastic surgery, is it like an open secret?generally would the artiste himself or herself admit to it openly to fellow artistes?or would they keep pretending that they never do anything, even to fellow artistes?and would anyone/you ask them about it?(seeing that u guys work in the same company)

does sucking up to the producers and casting ppl etc really boost chances in the tv industry?have you ever seen it happen before?and would you also do it if it gives you more opportunities?

Hey Brad Pitt, my guess for the 'dirty' ingredient would be either manure or blood (women's) or some animal intestines. Wild guesses on my side...

Hey Andie, are there a lot of gays in the entertainment industry? It seems like there are a lot of up and coming male leads who are all manly on screen, but have unique taste off screen. I have nothing against them at all, just that I find it very fake whenever they do interviews and portray an all manly image when they are so not.

Has this really been thought about? There are so many wannabes who try several ways juz to get into the media industry & yet it seems like we're always seeing the same old faces on screen?

The less popular newbies quit after a short while & get blamed for not being hardworking or persevering enough, and worse still, got labelled as the one who never made it.. Has the real reason ever been discussed seriously?

Then there's talk about our media losing youths & instead employed 'foreign talents' (who can take all the 'sh*t within) instead, for they're willing to start off as 'extras', probably got 'abused' in 1 way or another but still probably 'got nowhere' & the 'peanuts' ($$ incentive) paid is just not worth the while (the time, effort, scoldings & 'sucky' treatment that probably is capable of lowering one's esteem for the next 1 week or so)..

The entertainment industry being cited as 1 of the major segments of the national's growth, has been far neglected esp. 'the not-so-glamorous' internal management & the only thing the public gets to see is whatever that is on TV (all nice & pretty)..
And are we neglecting the less famous inventors, scientists & major contributors to our economy? Are people able to name a Nobel Prize winner or 2, while they can name dozens of celebs?
Our media industry that influences the public, is really lacking something, 'depth'. =)
