I Attempted to Seduce MediaCorp's Bosses?!

If you followed my tweets on Twitter, you might have already spotted my rather emotional outburst last night. Nope. No one died, just a rather misleading newspaper report that got me slightly affected.

A striking headline is always necessary to sell papers, I understand that. And despite the rather demeaning light they often cast on us, I've alway welcomed news reports. This is because these articles help spread the word on this blog, which is aimed to reach out to young adults.

Maybe I over-reacted. It's frankly quite a storm in a tea cup. But nonetheless, here are some clarifications:

1. No. I did not try to seduce anyone. Anyone who thinks wearing NEON NIPPLE BEARING SINGLETS are a turn-on should seriously drop the idea of giving anyone a lap dance.

2. No. I am not going to change my writing style nor will I write "(Just Joking)" beside my jokes to protect myself. If i have to choose between doing that or closing down my blog, I will rather close this damn site down.

3. NO. NO. NO. Not everything I say on my blog is a joke! If you cannot differentiate what are jokes and what are hard-earned information on Angsty Andie, then that is sad. Sad for me and sad for you. Just sad.

PS - Thank you all for your messages of encouragement and advise.
Angsty Andie

I'm truly AMAZED at how the papers can turn what you wrote into something COMPLETELY out of point and non-related! You should try wearing a neon-coloured shirt to your next meeting with the higher-ups. See if you get promoted.

I've had an experience with these 'reporters'. My friend knows someone in the (chinese) papers and she heard about how we couldn't go to Lee Hom's concert in KL because the organisers changed the date from Sat to Sun. Reporter calls me to ask me some questions, I answer honestly. Next day, I read the papers and he wrote it such that I was making a HUGE fuss by 'calling the organisers and demanding my rights' blah blah blah. I was both flabbergasted and amused. All I told him was 'my friend and I were upset but there's nothing we can do anyway.

My point is: Unless the newpaper readers have a personal encounter with the "reporters" of chinese papers, they'd take it as the truth and that, to me, is just plain stupidity and ignorance.

Keep writing the truth Andie.

Hi Andie,

Even though I am a new reader, I do enjoy your blog posts. However I do feel that you over reacted a little. I remembered reading through the article, and I dont find anything offensive about it, neither do I think it puts you in a bad light.I think for a lot of mediacorp artistes, you guys tend to get very defensive whenever there is any article that "seemed" to portray in a negative light. (taking examples from tay ping hui, dasmong koh etc). However to a lot of normal neutral readers, it really doesnt mean anything. Afterall the article just copied and pasted some stuff you wrote on the blog, but then the reporter did asked you for clarification, and asked a mediacorp person for quotes. From your own clarification and the positive quotes from the mediacorp person, i dont think it paints you in any bad light at all. Anyway, I had always believed that "bad" news is better than no news for the entertainment scene. So hope you wont get affected by it if such a thing happens again. Btw headlines are meant to sell in the first place, which I'm sure you also understand. If a reader just read the headline and did not bother to read the words, and thus got a wrong impression of you, do you think it is the newspaper's fault or the reader's fault?food for thought

Hope you dont think im chiding you or anything, just my point of view regarding the whole "mediacorp artiste being misquoted" incidents that had been happening lately

Hi Jade,
Thanks for your comment, I do agree with your point that the article is not such big a deal, especially to younger readers like you. but take into consideration the mass audience of the specific newspaper. They are more judgmental and also unless stated clearly enough their impression of the artiste will be the "tainted".

=)

I'm really glad you insist on writing with your original styles. These journalists seriously have nothing to do. Instead of being so upset, why not laugh and look at it from another perspective?

P.S. You're a good actor. I'm totally hyped for Fighting Spiders 2!
