When I first got the role of Team Leader "Chao Kok Huang", I was told it would be one of the lead character in C.L.I.F. And as you can imagine, I was pretty bumped when I realized that what I've landed myself with is yet another supporting role.

I was convinced that my hard work would once again be unseen and overshadowed, this time not by 1, but the 6 leads that will inevitably be given all the publicity and focus.

However, being an actor, I couldn't bring myself to give anything less than what I could, after all we're are the ones that looks stupid if we act stupid right?

So I slogged on my script to instill personal emotions into the technical and chunky lines, practice my mannerisms in front of the mirror to play an officer to actors that are easily 5 years my senior and as usual, I changed my diet and trained my physic to match the up coming role.

I'm no newbie anymore, after putting my heart and soul into every detail of this career for 4 years, its taking a toll. During the filming of C.L.I.F, I'm was a junction where I was questioning myself if I could go on.

Soon enough, C.L.I.F was hitting the small screens. I was all prepared to fight my own emotions with constant reminders that I'm not in this for the approval but for the passion. "You've been through this many times, whats one more?" I kept brain washing myself, all this while preparing myself to fight against my disappointment, my jealousy and envy.

So I waited. I see the amount of screen time the leads are getting, the posters, the adverts, the screaming fans. I'm acutely aware of the things that has the ability to evoke the overall feeling of shitty-ness.

But it didn't turn up.

Then I realised I'm older, more settled, and no longer sucked into the belief that a famous actor is a good actor. I realised what I want is no longer to have every Tom Dick and Harry patting my back every few minutes. I wanted good projects, be it an international feature or a student film. I need them, projects that can make me grow, projects that can help me see what I've always failed to see, projects that can help change the world just a little bit and maybe one just because I've always wanted to to wear my underwear outside.

It was a long time coming, but I'm glad I've became so comfortable with who I've am, with my strength and my flaws.

Most are in this for the vanity. I'm in it because its my purpose.

On a side note, here's my last tribute to my brothers/sisters in blue. Thanks for the ride guys.

C.L.I.F. 警徽天职 Part 10 - The Final Countdown.

We're now at the final countdown before the start of C.L.I.F. Some of you guys have previewed the 1st Episode, what do you think of it? For those who have not, just got to wait it out till the 31st.

For those of you who have been following the entertainment news. You would have heard that C.L.I.F have just had its press conference. And for a few of us (Me, Elvin, Tracy and Chris), attending the press con means flying back from KL.

We had to wake up at 4am to rush for the flight, hence the un-subtle use of shades.

After an apperication lunch with the whose who of the police force, we came onto stage, trying our best to do justice to our freshly ironed and tediously starched uniforms .

The reporters were particularly interested in the camaraderie between actors that was build through the 4 months of production. (Translation: How Elvin and I made Romeo's life hell on set.)

After 3 hours of talking about ourselves (yes, being shameless is also an actor's job), we headed off to a "wrap party". You should be seeing clips of that on your TV sets soon enough.

Do you see what I see? We couldn't stop teasing her about it.

C.L.I.F. 警徽天职 Part 9 - Who? What? Where? CID.

The Star factor in CLIF is one thing that really stands out. The actors casted in this drama is a great mixed of veterans, heavyweight stars and newbies. Such a huge and stellar cast has not been heard these recent years. I know it might get a little overwhelming so let me introduce the characters and their relationships.

Keep in mind that CLIF follows mainly the stories of a few departments in the Singapore Police force and how some cases intertwine and requires co-operation between departments.

First up, the CID!

Tay Ping Hui 郑斌辉 plays ASP Chong Yee Tat 钟易达, a dedicated career officer who rose through the ranks from a junior officer eventually to a team leader (OC Team B) in the Special Investigation Section (SIS) in the Criminal Investigation Dept (CID).

He is sharp, meticulous and enjoys investigative work. A capable officer, who have also served in the Security Command (SecCom) protecting VVIPs, he is one who can remain calm and makes rational decisions regardless how major the incident is.

He is very caring towards his colleagues and will not hesitate to lend a helping hand to anyone in difficulty. He works with closely with ASP Zhang Cheng Ling 章岑琳 (played by Chris Tong 童冰玉) who was posted from the Police Coast Guard (PCG) to CID (SIS) to work under him.

Rayson Tan 陈泰铭 plays SSI Yu Chong Nam 余忠南, who is the Deputy OC Team B in CID (SIS), a capable assistant to ASP Chong Yee Tat (Tay Ping Hui). Like his superior ASP Chong, he moved steadily up the ranks and with his wealth of experience in CID (SIS), and he is well respected by his subordinates.

Best Actress at the 2010 Asian Television Awards, Rebecca Lim 林慧玲 plays Inspector Liu Guat Mui 刘月美, who heads the Forensics Management Branch (FMB) at the Criminal Investigation Dept (CID). Insp Liu and ASP Chong Yee Tat were classmates at university and works closely in CID on several cases, especially one shocking body dismemberment case, which still affects ASP Chong to this day. Although humorous by nature, she is serious at work and often makes accurate analysis at crime scenes.

Chris Tong 童冰玉 plays ASP Zhang Cheng Ling 章岑琳 a driven and high-flying officer who had served stints at various Police Divisions before she was posted to Police Coast Guard as an OC Coastal Patrol Craft in recognition of her leadership qualities. Police give equal opportunities to all men and women officers, nevertheless ASP Zhang puts additional pressure on herself to excel at whatever she does. She was eventually posted to the Criminal Investigation Dept (CID) on her request, where she learnt much investigative skills and ways of the world from ASP Chong Yee Tat 钟易达 both as a mentor and as a friend.

MFW 2011 - To Friendships and Dreams

The story of my Mens Fashion Week experience is not about glitz and glamor. Instead its closer to the story of the NS boy who had his maid carry his bag (and balls) for him. Five years ago, I was that boy. No, not a pussy. What I meant was that I was also a smelly NS boy that people would roll their eyes at when I enter a MRT carriage. I was earning 400 bucks a month and I had seriously f-up skin. So needless to say, when I told people I wanted to be an actor, they smile, turn around and roll their eyes, went home and laughed it up with their friends and family. It was a tough time and it didn't help that I sucked at being soldier.

It was difficult holding onto a dream when no one believes in you. Then, I met Corporal Noah. Aspiring fashion designer and also a lousy soldier (sorry Noah). I could tell he too wanted to make something of himself, and likewise no one around would bet on him. There was sometime different thou. Noah never seemed to be bother by that, he would keep going, all the while cheerful and carefree as ever. So we kinda hung out (those of you who knows Noah, no we did not date -_-), thats when I met Desmond Tan and Rebecca Lim. Back then Desmond was a student and Rebecca just finished Miss Universe and was starting a painful career called acting. Along the way I also bumped into Nat Ho, who was my senior and occasionally came in for reservist. He was then a Singapore Idol reject.

We all had something in common. We had dreams and we were working our asses trying to get there. And we were all at a pretty low point. Maybe thats why we clicked.

Fast forward to 2011 Mens Fashion Week. Desmond just finished his degree and is also an artiste with Media Corp, Rebecca just won ATV making her the best actress in Asia, I'm being offered so many projects that I had to reject work, Nat has moved on from Media Corp and performed his debut single on the international stage of MFW. Noah became a designer and created local brand ATZU with Desmond and their label is featured on the runway of the first ever Mens Fashion Week outside Paris and Milan.

Yup, all that happened in 5 years. So when Noah asked me to model for ATZU on the MFW runway, I said - Anything for you, bitch.

Desmond, Noah and I was involved in the show and Becca and Nat attended MFW. After walking the show, with hundreds of cameras flashing on us and seeing my few closest friends smiling in their personalized and ridiculously expensive outfits, I was filled with emotions (I didn't cry lah bitches). I realized how far we have all came from our $400 pay, but what really got to me was the fact that all 5 of us, despite all the difficulties, have not once given up on our dreams and we are still fighting to fulfill the only true obligation in life.

So this is to friendships and dreams.

C.L.I.F. 警徽天职 Part 8 - Party Rockers!

I've always live by the mantra, work hard but play*Beeeeep* harder! And it looks like I'm not the only one. Shortly after the last day of shoot, the APs/PAs of C.L.I.F organised a full fledge wrap party. Everyone one was there, crew, cast, partners and even the policemen. The night started early and it went on and on and on... And yes, its went on that long mostly because we were not just drinking mineral water. =p

The party was already in full swing went I arrived. My plan was to hide in the air con room till the party downstairs dies down. Guess who had the same idea?

And the photo taking begins. I tried to keep it low profile.

But that plan didn't last for too long.

People thirsting for the same artificial cold air started coming in, and before you know it, we were all dragged down and that's when this happened.

3 times director of the year!

Here's the scoop - Tracy is having this super huge crush on Iceman Yu Wu. How big a crush? I', incline to believe that if he farts, she's gona think it smells like flowers. Anyways, Tracy has been dying to take a photo with Ah Wu (alone) since the start of the party. This is the closest she came to it.

C.L.I.F. 警徽天职 Part 7 - It’s a Wrap!

After 3 months of blood, sweat and bruises, its over! No one was hiding the relief of completing this project towards the last few days of shoot. Its was tough! Especially for the production team. From the EP to the producers, editors, directors, ADs, PAs, camera men, sound men, lighting crew, camera crew, and any everyone that’s helped complete this large scale production before its estimated timing. Kudos!

The surprise for me in this production is how well the group of actors clicked. The dynamics of our friendship is pretty similar to the relationships we are portraying on screen. So I’m sure the chemistry will shine through.

C.L.I.F. 警徽天职 Part 6 - I'm serious. Its big.

I guess I have established the fact that CLIF has generally been a fun production. But what's the main difference between CLIF and other police productions in the past? The difference is in size.Yes it matters. The scale of production for CLIF is so huge that just by reading the script, I could tell that it was going to be a logistic nightmare. There are action sequences in every episode, and walking on set with 30 - 50 actors/extras/policemen has almost become a norm. Besides that, the production team had to deal with overseas productions, firearms, car chases, explosions, harsh terrains and many more. So if you are hungry for a big budget, big scale local TV series, this is it.

Still wanna be an actor?

SCDF, Paramedics, PTU, DTT and many others units were involved in the production.

The PTU (Police Tactical Unit) was activated for a number of scenes.

PTU trucks, also known as "Ang Chia" or Red Truck.

One of the toughest scene for me, arresting a rogue cop.

As a Team Leader, I get to drive a special Team Leader Truck. As cool as it seems, its takes a skilled driver (not me) to drive it to its capability, especially when shooting in forested area.

Joey plays my right hand man. A deputy Team Leader that is understanding and close to the rest of the team.

Joey was given a intense scene to carry alone. How did she flair?

Elvin plays a rookie policeman that through his relationship with his Team Leader (thats me), grew from a goalless slacker to a confident responsible police officer. He is also romantically linked to Tracy's character.

Elvin and I formed an interesting friendship through this drama. Seeing how well we clicked, the other cast and crew assumed we've been working together for a long time. But the fact is we've never worked together before this production and I've always assumed that I would hate his guts. Apparently this feeling is mutual. Elvin admitted he assumed I was an a**hole. LOL. Anyways, honest sincere friendships are hard to come by in this industry, so I'm just glad I found a new friend. Woots!

Romeo plays a newbie who is earnest, hardworking and ambitious. He inspires to join STAR. Singapore's version of the SWAT team, but disaster soon strikes...

CLIF is Romeo's first drama, so Elvin and I made extra effort to "bully" him on every possible occasion. Yes, we blamed him for every single delay (including the rain) and even made him buy coffee. =p He sucked it all up! Yes, he is that sweet. And good news for all the Juliets out there, he's single.

Technically, I'm not his senior. Anyone remember where this came from?

Joanne plays an IO (investigation officer) in the Tanglin Police Division. Yeap, same working station as the NPCOs (Me, Elvin, Tracy, Joey and Romeo) but in a different department. Confusing I know. Anyways, Joanne will be working with Qi Yu Wu for most parts.

Behind every dead serious scene you see on TV is a bunch of actors fooling around. This time, I've got evidence. =p Featuring Elvin, Romeo, Dick, Tracy, Joey and myself.

The day starts with the stun master giving instructions. Lets just say things don't always goes as planned. To makes it worse, there were a bunch of bored actors that are of absolutely no help. =p

And the crazy sound guy joins in the fun.

Things starts getting serious. kind of.

I use to think an actor's life is hard. I take that back. This is what I call hard earned money.

Stunt man: "there's no such thing. Its fire resistance"

Me: "glup..."

The crew was suppose to put out the fire the very second the stun man dropped onto the ground. They were late for one second. This stun man is usually pretty damn chirpy, but he was dead quiet that day. Opps.

Its has been a while since "C.L.I.F. 警徽天职" started filming. Some of you might be wondering with such a large cast, why is it there is so little FB photos, tweets etc from the individual actors? The reason is brutal, we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement to not reveal any information to protect the trade secrets of the Singapore Police Force. This means you will not see much information or materials during this period.

Being a social network junkie, this did not sit well with me at all. So after a long discussion with the channel 8 promotion department, they has granted me special rights to bring to you guys regular updates and behind the scenes footage throughout the production and promotion period of "C.L.I.F. 警徽天职"!

I'm not a reporter, so there will not be formal interviews. Just updates of what we are working on day to day. Along with ample of photos and videos of the cast and crew.

After playing a supporting role in "Precious Babes 三个女人一个宝", the production team called me back for another production, and this time as the first male lead. Woots!

"Prosperity 喜事年年" also happens to be the last production that "Matrix Vision" will be churning out. This is the same production house that brought you award winning productions "奶爸百分比百", "3 and a Half Women", "Light Years" etc. A great loss to our TV industry if you ask me.

Regardless, I was honored to be in the casted in the final production and playing a uber geek no less!

"Prosperity 喜事年年" is a Chinese New Year drama, so you can expect light hearted family humor throughout the 22 episodes but before you strike this off as another family drama, you might be glad to know that younger actors are carrying more than half the weight of the production this time round. Including me, newly crowned best actress in Asia Rebecca Lim Hui Lin, Yuan Shuai, Malaysian actress Tiffany and Lee Mei Ling Tracy.

Sorry for neglecting my pink ~~gay~~ girly looking blog for so long. Shooting a Matrix production can be very consuming.

If you have not heard. "喜事年年" is the last production for this 10 years old production house. This is the same company that brought you classics such as, 至尊紅顏, 奶爸百分百and 煮妇的假期. So do stay tune for this Chinese New Year drama, slated for release this coming January.

I've been so busy with the filming of "喜事年年" that it can get a little overwhelming. But when I need a breather, I'm glad I have the right programmes to keep my mind in a happy place. If your're bored and looking for some entertainment, here are some stuff you might not mind paying for (and some that you might regret).

Rating System

1 star - Folding your notes into a paper boat and sailing it down the drain might be a better idea.

3 stars - Ok lah.

TV Series

True blood season 1-2

Horror Suspense Drama

An American series based on a novel where humans and vampires co-exist. lots of social commentary. Don't expect to see Twilight or some action packed vampire hunting action though. Good simple story which picks up its pace at season 2. HBO has a knack for making unique series and this is one of them. Lots of blood, gore and sex so that works for me.

On Cable and DVD

Season 1 - 3 stars.

Season 2 - 4 stars

Man vs Wild Season 1 and 2.

Documentary

You must have at least heard of this. A survivor expert (The legendary Bear Grylls) surviving the harshest terrains in the world. Think its in the 6th season now.

Great to watch for a while but gets repetitive after a few episodes. Watch out for the Will Ferrell special.

On Discovery Channel or DVD.

3 stars.

Accidental couple 그저 바라 보다가

Korean Drama

I rarely watch idol dramas but this one is good. Sincere, relatively well thought out script and actors are fun and easy on the eyes. Try to ignore the occasional loop holes and you will enjoy the ride.

Modern family season 1

Family Comedy

The newest Emmy winner for Outstanding Comedy Series. Think 7th Heaven meets The Office. Its one of the best cure for stress after a hard day of work. With the right script we could actually produce something like this in Singapore.

The Office Season 1-6

Comedy Series

One of the best comedy series ever. Its a buy over from the UK version, but by season 2 it has evolved into a unique series. Deserves a mountain of Emmys but have never gotten any. Damn the American pride. Watch all 6 seasons please, you will not regret it. Again, this is something Singapore can manage as well.

Madmen season 1-3

Retro Drama Series

Critical acclaimed drama that's all the hype in the States. Think its airing its 4th season right now. Great art direction and uber detailed. I'm gona get shot by millions saying this but season 1 and 2 are kinda boring and slow. Season 3 gets real good at round episode 8. Like I tweeted, I think this one is more for the women and the old.

Disney's take on the popular video game. Entertaining but don't expect anything more. And for the last time Jake Gyllenhaal is not eye candy.

Brainless fun. 3D effects made me felt like I was in a theme park. Milla Jovovich is way hot.

Plane crash, virus spreads, zombie kills and only the 2 main characters survives. Sounds familiar?

The script is a little stretched but action sequances are awesome. Jolie rocks socks.This is basically Hollywood doing what it does best. Watch it.

Seriously, don't even bother about this one.

Flop-buster of the season. If you didn't know, Stallone wrote the first and the last of Rocky Series. I was convinced he was a great writer. Now, I'm not too sure.

In a blink of an eye the countdown for "Unriddle 最火搭挡" has started! 10 days more to the premiere of this big budget blockbuster series. 4th August (Wednesday) onwards, every weeknight 9pm on Channel 8!

A few days ago, the cast and crew of "Unriddle 最火搭挡" had a closed door press conference with the media. They were treated to a never seen before 10 minute show-reel that we have edited as a little teaser. If you haven't got hold of the press conference footage and show-reel, here they are!

Before I completed "最火搭挡 Unriddle" I was busy with "Fighting Spiders 2". It was a privilege to be able to work on what I consider as one of the best local production in many years. I know many of you are as excited as myself about this series, so I've decided to share some photos of "Fighting Spiders 2's " promotional photo cum video shoot!

Car chases, gun firing, prostitution busts and fist fighting has almost became a daily routine for me in the past 3 months. The production team behind "Precious Babes" are well known for their speed and efficiency on set, and honestly its took me a while to get use to their pace. But despite the constant race against time, we still managed to have tons of fun! Here's the story. The team was shooting a scene where Priscelia had to severely cane our two kids. Since we couldn't really cane the kids for the right sound effect, we had a problem. Fear not! Our trusty director have a solution for every problem we face and here's how he solved this one.

TV- From Band of Brothers to The Pacific. 4 Stars.

I sure most of you have watched or at least heard of the 1998 World War Two movie "Saving Private Ryan". I've just re-watched the 12 year old movie starring Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, and I was surprised at how entertained and moved I was by the film. It deserved every one of its five Oscars.

Doing some read up on the film, I found out that Steven Spielberg teamed up with Tom Hanks three years after "SPR" to created a 10 part mini Series " Band of Brothers" in 2001.

"BOB" tells the story of the Second World War through the eyes of "Easy" Company of the 101th Airborne Division of the American Army (Imagine sky divers in uniform and big guns). Starting with their training to the entry of war and eventually the capture of Germany.

Few familiar faces includes,

Daimian Lewis who is now the lead in the TV series "Life "

and David Schwimmer from "Friends"

Fast forward to nines years later, Tom and Steven decided that they are not done with making World War Two mini series, so they produced "The Pacific"

"The Pacific" draws its roots from the "BOB" except this time it tells the story of the American Army's Marines, (here we call this kind of soldiers "the Chiong Sua ones") and their struggles in the Pacific region (yes, thats almost where we are at.) during the Second World War. The Pacific area was controlled by the Axis power Japan in the 1940s, So be prepared to see a lot Caucasians killing Asians. Ha.

Both "BOB" and "TP" are marvelous productions that I consider a blessing to have been produced during our time. It is historically accurate, well written with a great soundtrack, great art direction (sets, costume, props) and performances.

You can expect war scenes with hundreds of actors, real battle locations, historically accurate guns, ships, tanks, planes and a array of WW2 weapons. With all so much commercial attraction, it might is easy to forget whats really important in a film, emotions. but trust Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks to capture all the right moments to tug at our hearts and maturely deal with the complex emotions of war killings.

The mini series are educational and relevant, it brings us close to our history. If you are serving or have served the army, you would want to watch it. If anyone close is serving or have served the army you would want to watch it. If you live in the America, Europe or Asia you should definitely watch it.

There is however, a rather irritating problem about these war series, EVERYONE looks the same! Since everybody is wearing the same uniform, unless its an actor we know, it is almost impossible to tell one guy from another. Another glitch is the pace of the episodes, its gets from high adrenaline to tortoise crawl from one episode to another. The slow moving first three episodes of both series might lose some of its audience. But please stay in there and you will not regret it.

Regardless " The Pacific" and "Band of Brothers" are almost definitely better than that action/chick flick you watched last weekend. Thats twenty hours of solid television mind you.

I have been toying with the idea of returning to photography lately and so I've started reading up on photo digital enhancement. Most people simply call it "Photoshop", after a popular digital enhancement software.

Its everywhere in our lives, magazine, posters even in film and TV. I'm sure all of you have heard of "photoshopping" but do you really understand the extend of its power?

Here's how to spent your next 30 minutes. Go to YouTube and search for "Extreme Photoshop". I have linked a few more realistic examples. Have fun!

PS. I have to warn you though, your world be destroyed and you will never trust a Facebook picture again.

"Photoshop" have been saving careers of many celebrity since its 1.0 release in 1990. So relax, stop being so tough on yourself and eat that chocolate bar!

With all that said, "Photoshop" can be used this way too. Hur Hur.
